Marty Ferrero, MA
Prior to joining the SCA staff, Marty spent over eleven years with the Hazelden Foundation. Most recently, he was the clinical supervisor of the men's intensive residential and extended care programs at Hazelden Springbrook in Oregon. In addition to being licensed and certified as a chemical dependency counselor, he has a Master's Degree in Addiction Counseling from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies in Minnesota.
Marty also brings a wealth of experience in another realm, having spent over a decade in the field of academia. He has taught at several prestigious colleges and universities (reading and study skills), and at the secondary level (social studies), as well as having been a GED instructor at the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps Center in St. Paul, MN.
Since entering the world of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in January of 1993, he has been involved in community mentoring and Big Brother programs. While a resident at Hazelden's Fellowship Club in St. Paul, MN. Following inpatient treatment, Marty spent four months working at a horse ranch, which he describes as a "spiritual experience." He is extremely passionate about recovery and helping to guide our students toward the path that ultimately transforms their lives and allows them to utilize their full potential.
Originally from New Bedford, MA, Marty attended Holderness School (a boarding school in Plymouth, NH) for four years before earning his BA in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a founding member of Red Sox Nation and has been religiously attending games annually at Fenway Park over the past four decades. He loves to ski, both downhill and especially skijoring with his beloved dogs.
