Frequently Asked Questions

I would prefer my student finish his education with his former high-school; is this possible?

Each high-school is different in their requirements and policies for long-distance completion. This option can certainly be investigated; however, it is frequently not feasible. In most cases, this option requires many hours of in-class instruction, test proctoring, and strict adherence to deadlines. Approval of this as a feasible course of action will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

I want my son to receive his high-school diploma, not a GED.

Receiving a high-school diploma is our preference as well. No matter which path is chosen, a diploma is possible. If enrollment in the New Mexico Educational Program is determined best, a GED exam is taken and a diploma can be granted. Please be advised that upon successfully completing the GED Test, the New Mexico High School Diploma is issued to New Mexico residents. SCA can make it possible, through the Motor Vehicle Division, for your student to obtain a New Mexico State ID and thus a New Mexico High School Diploma. Residency is verified with a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or a valid New Mexico Non-Driver’s License (New Mexico ID). Specific identification is required by the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division.

Do I have to send my son’s original identification?

YES; original documents are required for many reasons: college admission, H.S. completion, internship acceptance, employment, etc. Your son will not be given full access to their identification until the final phase of the program, but they will need to present these identifying documents for the reasons stated above.

For both the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division and the GED registration, two (2) forms of identification are required:

  1. Driver’s License or Passport—At least one must be a government-issued photo identification (e.g., driver’s license, state-issued ID, U.S. Passport) and must indicate name, date of birth, and signature.
  2. Social Security CardThe second form of identification must verify two of the following: name, date of birth, social security number or signature (a social security card is the most acceptable form of ID).

If these documents are not available, other identification and documents may be requested.

What are the “Pre” and “Post” Tests?

The pre-test determines which areas your son is strong in and which areas, if any, they may need assistance/tutoring in. Essentially this test assists us in determining how ready your son is to move forward with high-school completion, not just in terms of education but also regarding test anxiety or special accommodations. If assistance is deemed necessary, a tutoring schedule is part of the SCA program.

The post-test determines improvement in those areas previously tested as low. Just as in the pre-test, the post-test assists us in determining whether your son is ready to move forward with the next step toward high-school completion.
